Band History
Chester Wind Band was originally set up in 1989 by Peter McNulty, the former Headteacher of Blacon High School and former MD Edward Milner. The Lord Mayor provided some financial backing and a financial award from the National Lottery Arts Fund ensured further expansion, and helped towards the purchase of new instruments. Concerts are given to raise money for local charities and for the Band to expand their music library. They have also gained recognition at the Boosey and Hawkes National Wind Band Festival and the Chester Festival.

They (or selected ensembles) have played at the Concept for Living Exhibition at Tatton Park, the Groves Bandstand, Weddings, various functions at Eaton Hall, Chester Cathedral, local Village Fêtes, and even Regimental Dinners at Chester Castle to name but a few!

Their repertoire is varied and all musical tastes are catered for. They play music ranging from Hollywood Blockbusters, such as Raiders of the Lost Ark and Jurassic Park to classical pieces such as Bach’s Toccata in D Minor and good old traditional Last of the Proms fare, Fantasia on British Sea Songs and Jerusalem.

Current Musical Director.
